How to Check Mac Battery Health & Cycle Count

Keeping an eye on your Mac’s battery health helps you understand its performance and when it might need replacement. Follow these simple steps:

🧭 Step 1: Open System Settings

            1. Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner.

            2. Select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).

🔍 Step 2: Go to Battery Settings

            1. Scroll down and click Battery.

            2. Look for Battery Health.

💚 Step 3: Check Battery Health Status

            1. Click Battery Health.

            2. You’ll see:

                    • Maximum Capacity (%) → Shows how much charge your battery holds compared to when it was new.

                    • Condition → Usually shows Normal, Service Recommended, etc.

👉 If your capacity is below 80%, your battery may need replacement soon.

🔢 Step 4: Check Cycle Count (Detailed Info)

To see the cycle count, you’ll need System Information:

            1. Hold down the Option (⌥) key.

            2. Click the Apple menu () again.

            3. Select System Information.

            4. In the sidebar, click Power.

            5. Look for:

                    • Cycle Count

                    • Condition

📊 What is Cycle Count?

           • A cycle = using 100% of your battery (not necessarily in one go).

           • Example: Using 50% today + 50% tomorrow = 1 cycle.

💡 Most modern Macs are designed for ~1000 cycles before significant battery degradation.

⚡ Bonus Tip: Quick Battery Status Check

           • Hold Option (⌥) and click the battery icon in the menu bar.

           • You’ll instantly see the battery condition.

🛠 When Should You Replace Your Battery?

           • Cycle count is near or above 1000

           • Battery health drops below 80%

           • You see “Service Recommended”
